Crown Reduction

Crown Reduction involves pruning the outer crown of a tree to reduce the height and spread of the crown. By doing this you reduce the overall size of the tree and reduce the wind sail area; this can mitigate some hazard-related problems and gain a more desirable shape as well as increasing the light levels below.

Crown Lifting

Crown Lifting is the removal of the lower branches to remove some of the hazards that low branches cause for example, to allow suitable clearance for a footpath or highway.

Crown Lifting is also an effective method of increasing light transmission to areas closer to the tree.

Crown Thinning

Crown Thinning is also a good way to increase light levels without altering the shape of the tree. This involves carefully pruning selected branches throughout the crown which reduces the wind sail and helps to mitigate some hazard related problems.

Pollarding

Pollarding is the removal of the main limbs of a tree. This is normally done in the early stages of a tree’s life to control its overall size. New shoots are then re-pollarded in cycles to help maintain the shape of the tree.

Pollarding has been practiced since the 1st century BC as a way to control the size of trees in ancient walled cities and is still carried out today, leading to some of the oldest trees in the world.

Dead Wooding

Dead Wooding is the removal of potentially dangerous dead or diseased wood from the crown. This is key in any area with property or people. Not only does it reduce the hazard of falling branches it also improves the look of the tree.

Tree Felling

We can offer two types of felling, Sectional Felling and Directional Felling.

Sectional Felling is when a tree is dismantled in multiple sections. This method is used when space is limited or hindered by buildings etc. To do this we use aerial rigging techniques to complete the work in the safest manner by our highly trained staff.

Directional felling is felling a tree in one section. This is done if there is suitable space or when a tree is unsafe to climb.

Stump Removal

Where possible, we use specialist stump grinders to remove the stump and root ball so that your property is free from unwanted obstacles. If access is tight then we can use ECO plugs that directly target the stump to stop any re-growth and allow the stump to rot away.

Drone and Wildlife Rescue

For the growing amount of “UAV” in the sky, there are often problematic clashes between drones and trees!

If you need help rescuing your drone or any other object stuck in a tree, be sure to call us!

Hedge Trimming

Regular hedge trimming is a vital part of keeping your property looking great. We take pride in ensuring the work is carried out to the highest standard. We are forever mindful of the fantastic habitat that your hedges create so we take the utmost care to not only leave you with a great looking hedge, but also leaving the wildlife to thrive.

Emergency Work

Not all tree work can be planned for so we are available 24/7 for emergency work call outs in the Isle of Purbeck and the surrounding area.

Application Forms

Many trees are protected due to Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) or because they grow in conservation areas, therefore, applications must be made to the local Council.  We have a strong and healthy relationship with our local tree officers so we are well placed to fill out the TPO/Conservation Area applications forms to obtain consent on your behalf. These applications are required to avoid any unwanted fines.
